About Donna Marsh Steinback

Donna Steinback grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to San Diego in her senior year of high school. During her first years in San Diego, Donna (then Marsh) worked as a sales representative for her parent’s concession company. Later, she made the transition to fashion retail, taking a position as both buyer and manager for a local boutique. After marrying Mark Steinback in 1981, Donna moved to Palm Dessert.  She began working at Edith Morré, a well-known woman’s clothing store on fashionable El Paseo.

A Palm Desert fixture since 1957, Edith Morré had been successfully owned and operated by Mark’s parents since 1973. Donna became a partner in the business in 1986 and took full ownership in 1994. As the store’s sole buyer, Donna made several yearly trips to New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Las Vegas to purchase everything from sportswear to evening attire, tailored toward fashion-forward women looking for signature pieces. In 1998, Donna oversaw the complete construction and interior design of a new, 6,200 square foot Edith Morré building just two doors down from the original location, leading the luxury store into a new era.

Donna, along with husband Mark, listened to San Diego shoppers who fell in love with Edith Morré and bemoaned the lack of a similar store in their beautiful city. When the couple made the decision to close Edith Morré, (now a jewelry store) they also seized the opportunity to relocate back to San Diego and embark on a new adventure. La Jolla was a natural choice to set up shop, and in April 2007 they purchased and completely renovated a 5,500 square foot location on Fay Avenue. Donna Marsh will continue the Steinback’s legacy of upscale women’s clothing in a warm, friendly environment, catering to women of all ages with well-known and emerging designers for all occasions.
